Abstract

Over the past 25 years, Irish company VivaGreen have been pioneers in sustainable practices and products that protect both the planet and its inhabitants. By formulating products from natural origins and sustainable sources they produce a wide range of Biodegradable, Plastic-Free and Chemical-Free products.


Relevance

Gardening is a rapidly growing hobby for many and can encourage grow your own initiatives. Viva Green wanted to deliver a product that met the VivaGreen is a knowledge-based company that is driven by the founders’ engineering backgrounds to bring fresh, innovative products made from renewable resources to the marketplace. VivaGreen is a world leader in the research and development of Biodegradable, Chemical and Plastic-Free materials and we are committed to producing products that are not only the greenest, but are also of the highest quality.

They have put the Environmental welfare of the garden at the heart of what they deliver


Concepts addressed within ESG

The ethos of the company is about addressing a hobby from a sustainability aspect. They are a company that supplies gardeners but they do so with a sustainable product that is good to gardeners and the garden. Their sourcing of the product that fits these criteria is critical to their success.


Challenges and recommendations

Their story can be seen from 1999 onwards.

They started small and have tracked their developments and milestones. They started with key products and invested in Research to get products that matched their brand values.

1999- McDivot – Our first product was a 2-inch biodegradable divot anchor for golf courses. McDivots are used in leading courses worldwide such as St. Andrews & Augusta National.

2000- GreenStake Biodegradable Staples – A Biodegradable Plastic-Free anchoring stake used in Landscaping, Forestry, Golf and Amenities sectors. To date GreenStake® have replaced over 100 million metal and plastic pins going into the environment. Customers include John Deere California Parks and Glastonbury Festival.

Research & Product Development

2006 – GreenSax Compostable Bags – A range of compostable biodegradable bin liner bags (with extra strength and tear resistance). These were the first compostable bag on the Irish market

Research & Development

2016 MossOff Chemical-Free – The first of its kind on the market, MossOff works anywhere on hard surfaces or lawns. MossOff® Chemical Free has substituted over 150,000 litres of chemicals going into the environment. Customers include Waterways Ireland, Blarney Castle and Gardens, Ballygallon Stud and the UK National Trust.

2017 Ecommerce Store – in 2017 we rolled out our ecommerce store to make our eco products available worldwide.

2018 ReMade from plastic waste bags – A heavy duty refuse sack, made from 100% Post-Consumer Waste Plastic. Ideal for around the house or in the garden. ReMade has prevented over 100 tons of plastic waste going to landfill, incinerators or worse the ocean.

2019 DeOdour, SnackSax, Scrapack – In 2019 we launched 3 new products, all products are designed as eco alternatives to everyday problems. Including DeOdour Chemical-Free, SnackSax Paper Sandwich Bags and Scrapack Countertop Waste Tidy’s.

2020 TruEco – A range of eco-friendly household cleaners made from plant-based ingredients. The Tru Eco range is a circular economy product as all bottles are made from 100% recycled plastic and are all refillable.
