Abstract

Cloudforests was founded in 2020 with a mission to create forests for the planet, nature and people along Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. We partner with businesses that are environmentally conscious to create our forests which are enhanced for biodiversity and people. Credible climate action for your business starts by becoming a CoolPartner. When a business supports our mission we call them CoolPartners.

Relevance

Forestry is a business that requires a lot of investment. The founder saw a way to build a business based on the ethics of trying to prevent climate change and help companies get involved in not just offsetting their carbon footprint but to make them get involved with the process. There are lots of places that can offset your carbon emissions but this is one where you can also help plant the trees in a team building day. You can visit your trees and monitor them on a webcam.

Concepts addressed within ESG

Emission Capture, Employee engagement and virtual monitoring of the planted trees enables businesses to monitor all of their ESG goals. They also create a community of tree planters and share their community stories.

Impact & Achieved Results

Since December 2020, we have planted over 48,309 trees.

The species mix so far is: Oak

Sitka Spruce

Hazel Alder Rowan

Crab Apple Willow Scots Pine Holly

Wild Cherry

Our Forests Are Managed Using Close To Nature Principles.

9.6 Estimated Tonnes of C02 negative on average per partner per year*

Indicators of performance and success

They have five forest creation sites a thriving CoolPartner community with 54 CoolPartners.

They have completed a native gift tree grove at Cloudforest One.

Five CoolPartners entered the Beyond Cool programme to ramp up their climate action. They have new initiatives planned around micro forest creation.

Certifications

At Cloud Forest they give the badges to their cool partners who plant the trees with them. They also are now giving badges for Beehives supported by companies.

Challenges and recommendations

Getting businesses on board. As well as running a forestry business the founder had to network and sell the idea to business. He has developed huge social media links and a podcast to spread the word.
