Abstract

Polonia Logistyka is a Polish, professional, dynamically developing company offering logistics services. It has been operating on the market since 1999. It has modern means of transport at its disposal, meeting European emission standards and equipped with GPS navigation system. It offers national and international road transport services as well as logistics and warehousing services mainly in the western part of Poland. Polonia Logistyka also imports and exports shipments by sea and air.


Relevance

Polonia Logistyka wants to be socially responsible and CSR activities are part of the company's management policy. The company has been acting socially for years, both caring for employees and the local environment. It has a solid theoretical foundation for this - a strategy that defines its CSR policy. The company's activities in this area are well thought out, consistent and considered necessary.


Concepts addressed within ESG

CSR is embedded in the strategy of Polonia Logistika and covers various areas. These include:

  • Ecology - optimisation of routes, reduction of vehicle combustion, reduction of CO2 emissions, e-circuits, e-invoices, certified paper disposal, ecological rolling stock working environment - ethical and development-oriented approach to employees, company culture, training, language courses, team-building events, clear remuneration system, profit sharing.
  • Charity - e.g. support for the hospice (donation of a car for the hospice), Waldorf kindergarten (financial and in-kind), children's sports clubs, as well as local initiatives and social campaigns (support for orphanages, care and educational facilities and community centres, as well as participation in lectures and speeches).
  • Investment in innovation - software to streamline processes (freight management portal, warehouse portal, e-invoicing), systems to optimise working time.
  • Relations with the environment - cooperation with subcontractors whose rolling stock meets quality requirements, consent to student internships and apprenticeships, substantive support for authors of scientific publications (providing access to materials, information, company analyses), business ethics.

Impact & Achieved Results

The results of the implementation of the CSR strategy in this company are: a developed and implemented "Code of Ethics for Polonia Logistyka", "System for monitoring drivers' opinions and expectations" built, internal training carried out, human resources development and management. Consistent and supportive CSR activities for others position Polonia Logistyka very well in the market. This builds its image as a responsible, successful business, socially sensitive company that respects others.


Indicators of performance and success

Thanks to the implemented actions, the Polonia Logistyka brand is more recognisable and has gained more credibility; it has structured procedures, operates in a transparent manner and continues to improve the implemented logistics processes. In addition, innovative activities carried out as part of the CSR policy generate savings, facilitate management and cooperation with other entities on the market. It is easier to cooperate with partners who have a clear code of ethics. Such partnerships are more promising, provide a relative sense of security and build a strong foundation for cooperation.

The measures introduced also improve communication within the company, have an impact on good work organisation, maintaining good relations and a friendly atmosphere. The employees of Polonia Logistyka take an active part in the development of CSR projects. This also gives them a strong sense of identification with the company.

The local community receives a lot of support from Polonia Logistyka. Thanks to it, many children have the chance to participate in various cultural events and young people have the opportunity to gain work experience.


Certifications

Polonia Logistyka holds a certificate of participation in the CSR project issued by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP).


Challenges and recommendations

The main challenge for the company is to implement further CSR activities to increase the level of trust from customers and suppliers and, as a result, bring Polonia Logistyka to a higher level of standards and performance. Multinationals rely on partners who implement the idea of corporate social responsibility with their actions. In order to be a leader on foreign markets, it is therefore worth betting on CSR implementations - but they must be carried out consistently and systematically.
