Abstract

The main purpose of Vegadénia is to satisfy consumers who demand a pleasant, high-quality, healthy and sustainable diet, creating vegetable preparations, preferably organic and local. Vegadénia makes high-quality natural vegetable preserves such as vegetable pates, aquafaba, chickpea hummus, jams and other preparations; ecological, artisan, local and suitable for vegetarian and vegan food. Vegadénia is a fundamentally family project, under the cooperative formula (Innova Veg, Coop. V.), in which, today, six people work directly. Their project was born in Denia (La Marina Alta) at the beginning of 2016, and since then they have been growing to their current facilities in the Parque Empresarial Tàctica de Paterna.

Relevance

The Vegadenia brand bases its project on:

  • Safety, using technology to adjust the conservation, pasteurization or sterilization treatment, to the needs of each product, based on analytical and objective values, according to demanding controls and safety protocols
  • Tasty, and using natural ingredients that anyone could have in their pantry or fridge, no artificial additives or preservatives, real food.
  • Healthy, with a focus on reducing the consumption of foods of animal origin and responding to the different needs and tastes in food
  • Sustainability, thanks to biological and local providers, and ecological packaging (glass rather than plastic). Their labels are made of paper and they use water-based inks. Even their pallets are made of cardboard.

Within the ESG field, Vegadénia is exemplary in the way they communicate and look for association with key stakeholders. They firmly believe in associationism and cooperation, and for this reason, they are members of PROAVA, FEVECTA, the Comité de Agricultura Ecológica de la Comunidad Valenciana, the Knowcosters Foundation, AINIA (Instituto Tecnológico Agroalimentario), the C.R.D.O. Tiger nut from Valencia. They also belong to the Craft association of Valencian Community.

Challenges and recommendations

According to the responsibles of Vegadenia: “There is a very interesting urban-rural polarization between the ecological and the vegan, since the vegan is mainly urban, as well as the ecological; when in rural areas farmers and consumers could focus more on this concept and take advantage to generate more items with this added value.

Regarding the economic part, I must confess that you will not find me in maximum policies, you have to think about the benefits and certain volumes. There is a European precept that states that "those who pollute pay", but those of us who do not pollute pay more without using phytosanitary products.

However, I am convinced that in the end we will be rewarded and the situation will be reversed, since the organic consumer is more sensitive to proximity and sees a product that is close to a product that is far away, he has a series of values that any non-organic farmer should consider. to switch to that technique and achieve progress that seeks true environmental stability.”
