RePack
RePack was founded by Jonne Hellgren and Petri Piirainen. The company was born out of a desire to address the growing problem of waste generated by single-use packaging in the e-commerce industry. The founders recognized the need for a more sustainable packaging alternative that could reduce waste and promote a circular economy.
RePack's solution involves reusable packaging made from recycled materials. Customers who make online purchases from participating retailers can choose to have their items delivered in a RePack package. After receiving their order, they can easily return the empty package by simply folding it and dropping it into a postbox. The returned packages are then collected, cleaned, and sent back into circulation for reuse.
The concept of RePack has gained popularity and recognition for its innovative approach to sustainable packaging. It has partnered with numerous e-commerce retailers and brands across Europe and beyond, providing them with a viable alternative to traditional single-use packaging. By encouraging the reuse of packaging, RePack helps to reduce the environmental impact of the e-commerce industry, including carbon emissions and waste generation.
Environmental sustainability, waste management
- Waste Reduction: By promoting reusable packaging, RePack significantly reduces the amount of single-use packaging waste generated by the e-commerce industry. This helps to minimize landfill waste and the consumption of natural resources required for the production of new packaging materials.
- Carbon Footprint Reduction: RePack's reusable packaging eliminates the need for frequent production and disposal of single-use packaging, resulting in reduced carbon emissions associated with manufacturing, transportation, and waste management. This contributes to mitigating climate change and lowering the carbon footprint of the e-commerce sector.
- Resource Conservation: The use of recycled materials in RePack's packaging reduces the demand for virgin materials and conserves natural resources. By promoting the circular economy, RePack helps to maximize the value and lifespan of materials, minimizing resource extraction and supporting a more sustainable resource management approach.

- According to Logistics and Infrastructure: Implementing a reusable packaging system requires efficient logistics and infrastructure for collection, cleaning, and redistribution of the packaging. Repack may face challenges in setting up and managing these logistical processes. To overcome this, Repack can collaborate with logistics partners, invest in technology and automation for streamlined operations, and establish partnerships with recycling facilities or third-party service providers for packaging cleaning and maintenance.
- According to Awareness and Adoption: One of the challenges for Repack is increasing awareness and adoption of reusable packaging solutions among businesses and consumers. Many people are still accustomed to single-use packaging and may not be aware of the benefits of reusable alternatives. Repack can address this challenge by investing in marketing and educational campaigns to promote the advantages of reusable packaging and engage with businesses and consumers.
- Continuous Improvement: To stay at the forefront of sustainable packaging solutions, Repack should continuously innovate and improve its offering. This includes exploring new materials, optimizing packaging design for efficiency and durability, and staying updated with industry best practices and technological advancements.
