Abstract

Deleite Wear is a company that offers the HORECA sector to revalue its textile waste in uniforms and merchandising with social and environmental value. They work with hotels, restaurants, tourism delegations in their sustainable transformation with measurable actions. Also, they support the sustainable marketing of their clients, who can, thanks to them, claim climate and responsible action. The business was build using LEAN Canva method. Their current working process is as follows:

  • Rescue of quality waste that is sanitized in the laundries of luxury hotels (collaboration with Caritas)
  • Design of professional wear
  • Sewing in local insertion workshops in Spain
  • Delivery of unique uniforms of high quality.

Relevance

The objective of Deleitewear is to sell professional wear using upcycling and use old clothes as raw material so as to eliminate waste and following circular economy principle.

Deleitewear is a social economy company. Their workshops employ people in social insertion programmes. (workshops that train vulnerable people, prostitutes who need to be inserted into society through a profession in dressmaking.)

Their products are 100% vegan (Their process refrains from land exploitation, protecting the biodiversity of forests.)

Their products are 100% suprarecycled (avoiding pollution that would mean wasting valuable textiles.)

The production is based in Spain and the company pay its taxes in Spain.

This project is led by women and is also relevant at the level of women empowerment.

Here is the saving offered by Deleitewear for each shirt that they produce (compared to other shirts):

  • Energy needed to charge 900+ smartphones
  • Water that an adult drinks during 5 years

300 gr of textile waste

Challenges and recommendations

Lack of time (the founder, Laura, finally found time during the pandemic). She wanted to have her own brand but it didn’t really make sense if it was linked to more waste. So she finally decided to do it when she discovered the upcycling concept.

Now they still lack time and abilities tobring together the needed human resources, and competences. She is working with her mother.
