The Circular Economy is an economic system based on the reuse and regeneration of materials or products, a means of continuing production in a sustainable/ environmentally friendly way. This includes considering the environmental, social and economic impacts of business activities and making decisions that prioritise long-term sustainability. The concept of the circular economy provides a new way of thinking for SMEs that provides strategies to increase resource efficiency. Through the adoption of circular economic practices, SMEs can reduce their environmental footprint, reduce waste and boost sustainable production and consumption principles.
During this module learners will explore the three main principles of the circular economy, understand the 7R’s of the circular economy, Doughnut Economics, benefits of the circular economy and look at current EU legislation as part of the Circular Economy Action Plan.
