Renbloc's integration of sustainability into their business strategy represents an example of a sustainable solution because it allows the companies to address environmental and social issues in a comprehensive and proactive manner.

By setting sustainability goals, the company can identify areas where they can improve their environmental and social performance, and work towards achieving those goals.

The use of sustainability metrics also allows Renbloc to track a company’s progress towards achieving their goals, which can help to identify areas where the company may need to adjust their practices or processes. This helps to ensure that the company is making meaningful progress towards its sustainability goals and can demonstrate that progress to stakeholders avoiding greenwashing.

Renbloc seeks to enable consumers to choose the origin of their energy through the availability of validated and transparent data. They create verifiable energy authentication, detailing the source, type and location of the energy produced. As a result, end-consumers will be able to prove they consume and operate completely on 100% renewable energy.

Their services include:

• historical emission data: shows hourly emissions data of the last 12 months that is customized for each geographical site in the value chain, and helps create detailed reports for CSRD compliance
• API for integration: this can be integrated into a company’s energy management system to connect local emission data and live energy consumption. The APIs can also be used to lower emissions by optimizing consumption.
• full emission report: detailed emission report complete with visualizations for each side and business, connecting CO2 emissions to kWh.

Renbloc helps companies incorporating sustainability considerations into decision-making processes, ensuring the consideration of environmental and social impacts alongside economic factors when making decisions. This helps companies to make more informed decisions that consider the long-term sustainability of their projects and operations by easily keeping track of when, where and how their energy is produced.

Furthermore, Renbloc enables companies to calculate their local energy mix (meaning that the “green energy” sold by many companies is not 100% renewable, but included a mix of wind, water, cogenerated energy, etc.) and emissions to help them meet the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) regulations which subjects companies to report according to European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). This means that it helps companies report their impact according to ESG criteria.

This means that it offers services that support transparency and accountability, thus providing the necessary data to provide to people in leadership positions within companies to make informed decisions considering their environmental impact.

Before being selected in the IndX process of 2021, Renbloc had been active for around 2,5 years, having won several startup initiatives. “In the IndX PoC Renbloc are looking into Väderstads factory as a whole and the charging of their forklift trucks. Toyota Material Handling Europe is also part of the project and monitors the results, with a special focus on the forklift trucks. This mapping can then show what kind of energy is used, at what hours and for what activities”.

Because it is a startup in the beginning of its operations, Renbloc still faces challenges such as improving its visibility and attracting customers. The company has been applying for different startup initiatives and for IndX, and it is participating in several events, such as the Logiconomi event in Antwerp in 2022.
